Collapsable Stray Cat Shelter

The overpopulation of stray cats poses a significant issue in the city of Montreal. After 3 months of research on their behaviours, needs, biology, and the effects on the city, I, along with 2 others, designed a modular cat shelter which can be easily purchased and assembled. The frame is made of recycled wood, the waterproof cover is made from a recycled banner, and the insulation layer is made from recycled canvas fabric with small pockets in which the purchaser can insert dryer lint, old clothes, or newspaper to help keep the shelter warm. The insulation layer also has zippers on the sides to transform it into a bag to carry the kit. The intent was that the kit would be marketed as a fun activity, for kids and adults alike. It would also directly benefit the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) which has a program called the “catch, neuter, release program”. By clustering our kits, the SPCA could create “hot-spots” of cats which would make it easier for the organization to locate and better control the stray cat population.
